Welcome!

Welcome to "Tresorie Framing/French Mats." This blog is dedicated to the art of framing and the beautiful, time-honored technique of hand-painted French Matting. Framing is a way to present and archive a cherished piece of your life. Whether it’s an old family photo, an expensive painting or your hard-earned college diploma, you want to be able to display your art proudly and beautifully, and for a long time.

My name is Heba Elbanna, and I am the owner and Head Designer of Tresorie, a full-service custom framing shop located in Hoboken, NJ. I have studied framing in Yorkshire and London, UK and have nine years of experience in the techniques of French matting, which combine my skills as a framer with my enthusiasm and talent for design.

Since 2004, Tresorie has offered a wide range of services to retail and wholesale clients throughout the greater New York Metropolitan area. Tresorie provides an extensive selection of Italian moldings, glazing styles that range from plain, clear glass to museum-quality glass and a wide variety of mounting techniques. Other services include conservation framing, acid-free mats, canvas printing and stretching, custom mirrors and more.

Tresorie specializes in French matting, a technique in which an artisan applies transparent watercolor washes and fine hand-inked lines around the perimeter of a matted work of framed art. This decorative art is still widely used in framing traditional works, but also for more contemporary pieces such as photography and modern art. Due to the painstaking handiwork necessary for a beautifully made French mat, the number of professional designers who specialize in creating these designs is somewhat limited.

This blog will explore the many different techniques of framing for artwork, photography, memorabilia, and mementos. We will discuss how to highlight and preserve your art and delve more into the technique of French Matting. I will also share some tutorials and lots of ideas, so check back often!
